Ideas for your School Media Website


Your school library website is the greatest tool you can offer your students, staff and parents and an advocacy tool for your library as well. Some suggestions for creating a comprehensive site are listed below.

First Page:

School Library Name, Address, Phone, Fax
Days & Hours open
Contact us email button or at least email address
Your Name along with Mr. Ms. etc so parents know how to address you when they call as well as your official title
Mission statement of LMC and a list of services provided or equipment available with details ie copier for student use .10 per copy as well as any rules ie drinks yes or no, food, etc. group study rooms sign up and the like
Collection information, # books, videos, kits, parent books, professional collection, etc.
Info for parents, what they can expect - teaching literacy & traditional library skills (what those are), stories, books out every two weeks, notice home for overdues, fines, no fines, etc.
Technology info # computers available, software used , where to get access, hours can use, rules, etc.
Perhaps a photo of faculty or students - compressed in photoshop for faster downloading
Navigation Bar across the top with links to major audiences/topics for example:
